2012 Performance Schedule

The 2012 season will be an exciting one for The University of Connecticut Marching Band! The schedule features 6 home football games at Rentschler Field, 3 high school exhibitions, 2 parades, and a performance with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra for the second year in a row. The UCMB will make its way around New England, so look for the band at a performance near you!

The performance season kicks off less than a week after the band’s preseason, on Thursday, August 30th with the home opener. The Huskies will take on the UMass Minutemen. The UCMB is especially excited for this game, as the UMass Marching Band will be making the trip to Rentschler Field. The UCMB and UMMB will both perform at halftime.

Don’t miss your chance to see the band up close at the 2012 UCMB Preview Show. The show will take place Saturday, September 1 at the Sherman Family Sports Complex. Alumni band members are invited to attend a tailgate at the Alumni Association prior to the show.

Another exciting performance for parents and fans is the Family Weekend Show, which will be held at the Sherman Complex this year, on Saturday, September 22.

After the overwhelming response last year, the UCMB is looking forward to another opportunity to perform with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra this fall. The band has been invited to the HSO concert in Bushnell Park on Saturday, September 29.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for us to give our members a different performing experience and to develop our image with a very different group of people than our athletic fans,” says Dr. Mills, Director of Bands.

The UCMB will help kick off Homecoming on Sunday, October 7 at the Homecoming Parade. The parade steps off at 1:30pm on Hillside Road.

The Homecoming football game and Alumni Band Day is on Saturday, October 13. The Huskies will face Big East newcomer, the Temple Owls. All UCMB alumni are invited to perform with the band at halftime and celebrate Frank Pappalardo’s 40th Anniversary as “The Voice of the UCMB!”

After a free weekend, the UCMB will begin its high school exhibition tour starting with NESBA Championships on October 27 in Lawrence, MA. The following Saturday the band will return to Bridgeport, CT on Saturday, November 3 to perform at the USBands New England State Championships. This event already has 50 high school bands signed-up to perform!

Sunday, November 4th will mark another first for the UConn Marching Band and will also be one of the highlights of the 2012 season. The UCMB will perform at MetLife Stadium for the USBands Open National Championships!

For the first time since joining division 1-A, band members will be able to enjoy a complete Thanksgiving break off. After having this time to rest and re-charge, the band will complete the 2012 regular season at the Senior Day game vs. Cincinnati on Saturday, December 1.
