Dr. David Mills was recognized yesterday at the 2012 CBDNA National Collegiate Marching and Athletic Band Directors Symposium by the current Director of The University of Miami “Band of the Hour” Marching Band, Thomas Keck, as an inductee to The Band of the Hour Association Hall of Fame.
Dr. Mills earned his Ph.D. in Music Education from The University of Miami (’88), where he worked with The Band of the Hour.
Since 1993, the Band of the Hour Association has been providing support for the “Band of the Hour” at The University of Miami. The Band of the Hour Association Hall of Fame was created to identify and honor individuals who have achieved excellence in performance and/or musicianship, in the Band of The Hour or who have contributed to the advancement of the Band of the Band of the Hour by support in time, resources, or talent.
The inaugural Class of 1994 jump-started a great tradition at the University of Miami. Members of the Hall include Miami Fight song composer’s, a U.S Congressman, a current Trustee of the University, and former band members. This distinct group of people stands for the tradition and history of the Band of the Hour. Dr. Mills is the 53rd Hall of Fame inductee. He joins Mike Graff and Ed Caughran in the 2011 class. Nominations are submitted annually and voted on by members of the Band of the Hour Association.
Dr. Mills and Mr. McNeill are attending the annual CBDNA National Collegiate Marching and Athletic Band Symposium at The Ohio State University.
Dr. Mills was also recently presented with the UConn Alumni Association’s Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award last year.
