This summer, the UCMB will be hosting virtual sessions over Zoom for both new and returning members! Participants will have the ability to join our first session and meet our Director, Dr. David Mills TODAY at 7:00 PM EST. Dr. Mills las led the program for the past 30 years, and has more recently been assisted by Associate Director Ricardo Brown and Assisstant Director Jessica Dickerson.

Support the Alex Schachter and Family Memorial Scholarship Fund

Last February, a future member of the UCMB was taken from us. Since then, the Schachter family of Florida has started a UConn scholarship in memory of their 14-year-old son who was killed in the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida in February.

Gifts to this fund will help provide scholarships to students who, like Alex, always wanted to play in the UConn marching band.

2018 Final Four Trip

Wherever our basketball teams go, so does our pep band. This year, we followed the women to the Final Four championship in Columbus, Ohio. Here is what some of our members thought about it:

“The trip was good. It was a great opportunity to do a little philanthropic work, like performing at a community center for a new basketball court dedication. We also got to get our name out there by winning the battle of the bands. Lastly, it was a great opportunity to bond with other members of the pep band in a new way, since we spent a lot of time in the hotel together. Lastly, it was exciting to be able to support the team in such an important match-up.”

“We had a lot of great non band related experiences, like visiting the Ronald McDonald House. It was really cool to see the City of Columbus be so excited about hosting an event that I was able to be a part of.”

“Columbus was a lively city, full of good food and an enjoyable vibe. Tourney town was very well setup, with a ton of exciting events. The trip overall made me a better person, whether it was cheering on kids running into tourney town to visiting the McDonald house. Cheering on the women again this year was an honor and I am extremely happy to have watched such a talented team representing the UConn Pep Band!”

“I had a thoroughly good time. I ended up bonding with the girls I roomed with and our variety of daily performances was super fun! I also liked how Mr. Brown was open to our suggestions on where we wanted to go in our free time, like Walmart, tourney town, and Chick-Fil-A. I would’ve preferred to be kept in the loop more about where and when we were going places but overall I had a really great time and I’m so thankful for the opportunity to participate in this experience.”

“I enjoyed being in a new environment and especially playing for the kids at Tourney Town. It was very enjoyable to see them excited as bands played around. The food was delicious as well! I liked doing various community activities and not strictly playing for the women’s team.”
